Recreate this Houston Texan logo using the pen tool in Illustrator.

Download the Houston Logo file and immediately save it in your folder. Remember to save every 15 minutes or so.

1. Create a new layer. Name the layer "white shape". Leave the raster image layer locked.
2. Choose a stroke color other than white. Make sure the fill is off.

3. Trace the white shape using the pen tool.You should have 15 anchor points.

4. Use the white arrow tool to adjust the position of the anchor points and handle bars..

5. Once the shape looks good, fill it with pure white and turn the stroke off.

6. Add a drop shadow to the white shape. You can find the drop shadow in the filter menu. Use the specifications below.

7. Turn the white shape layer off.

8. Create a new layer. Name it "red shape." Trace the red shape on that layer. You should have no more than 10 anchor points.

9. Use the eyedropper to select the proper shade of red to fill in the red shape.

10. Trace the blue shape with 10 anchor points. Use the eyedropper to fill it with the proper shade of blue. There should be no strokes on either the blue or red shapes.


11. Trace the star using the pen tool.

12. Subtract the star shape from the blue shape by selecting both the star and the blue shape and pressing the “subtract from shape area” pathfinder tool. Press “Expand.”


12. Turn the raster image layer off.

13. Flatten the artwork from the layer palette options. Discard hidden layers.

14. Select all the shapes with the black arrow tool and group them together (control-G)

15. Save the finished houston in the Finished Houston folder as your last name.
