1. Create a new document in PhotoShop that is 8 inches wide by 10 inches tall.

2. The resolution must be 300pi

3. Use RGB mode to create the image.

4. Press Control-R to make sure your rulers are visible (right-click on the rulers to make sure inches is the unit of measurement.) Put ruler guides 1/4 inch from the top, bottom, and both sides of the canvas.

5. Choose an attractive color for a background. Apply filters to add texture. The background should not be distracting.

6. Give the background an 8 pt. stroke. Edit-Stroke

7. Make a text box that is 7.5 inches wide by 9.5 inches tall. (the text box should be 1/4" in from all four edges of the canvas. Use the rulers guides.)

8. Copy and paste the following text into the text box:

The mission of Amherst Regional High School is to create a dynamic learning community where students are supported and challenged to achieve their full potential in their intellectual, creative, social, and civic endeavors. With parent and community participation, staff and students strive to ensure a safe environment and to promote respect and appreciation for the diversity of individuals, cultures, and learning styles.

9. The text must be centered.

10. Turn hyphenation OFF (check box in the paragraph palette.)

11. Use each of these techniques to emphasize at least FIFTEEN different words or phrases in the mission statement:

  • A variety of fonts (choose font styles that match the meaning of the words.)
  • Font sizes
  • Colors
  • Bold
  • Italics
  • Underlining
  • "Quotes"
  • Effects
  • CAPITALS
  • Adjusting the tracking
  • Adjusting the vertical and horizontal scale

12. Change the resolution to 72dpi.

13. Adjust the leading so that the bottom line of text touches the bottom ruler guide. Do NOT clear the ruler guides.

14. DO NOT Flatten the file. Save it as a PSD file in the "finished mission" folder as your last name.
