1. Open the file from the Library folder or download from the above link.

2. The image looks kind of grey, doesn't it? Adjust the contrast to +15.

3. Duplicate the background layer. Throw out the background layer.

4. Use the lasso tool to outline the bottom half of the photo. Make sure the feather is set to 0.

3. Move the bottom half of the photo to its own layer by cutting it (Control X) and pasting it (Control V).

4. Use the magic wand (tolerance>20) to select the white around the edge of the bottom half of the photo. Delete the white. Make sure you deselect (control D) after you have deleted the white.

5. Use the move tool (and arrow keys) to line up the left corners of the two pieces.

6. Rotate the top half of the photo (Edit Menu > Free Transform.)

7. When the edges are lined up perfectly, merge the two halves of the image (Layer Menu > Merge Visible.)

8. Crop the image so that it is 2.5 inches wide by 4 inches tall. Crop it so that it looks like the finished image at the bottom of the this page.

9. Repair the crack using the clone stamp tool. Choose a 10pt. feathered brush.

10. Repair the purple mark on her leg and the scratches in the grass.

11. Remove the white line on the grass using a 20pt. feathered brush. Copy the orange cone to the left side of the photo.

12. Remove the fence (blurry white line in the trees).

13. Remove the man standing behind her by clicking on his shirt with the magic wand (tolerance 40.) Expand your selection (Select Menu > Modify > Expand 1 pixel.)

14. Use the clone stamp tool to copy trees into the selection. Use the paint brush tool (with a small brush) to remove any shirt that might be visible.

15. Remove the man’s feet by outlining them in a triangle using the polygon lasso tool. Slide the selection to the right using the keyboard arrow keys. Copy the grass. Move the copied grass to cover up his feet. Flatten the image.

16. Remove the man’s shadow from near the girl’s hip by outlining the area with the polygon lasso tool or lasso tool.

17. Copy the orange cone so that there is another one on the left side of the image.

When the entire photo is touched up, flatten your file.

18. Save the finished photo as a TIFF file in the Finished Tornrunner folder. It should be saved as your last name.

19. If you finish early, you may place an object in the girl's hand.


The project will be graded according to how well you have repaired the image. Points will be deducted if rubberstamping patterns or marks are visible.
