Michael Tremayne Brown

Mike Brown is 16 and is currently a junior at Amherst Regional High School, he was born in Bronx, N.Y. and came to Amherst through the A Better Chance Program for High School. He is an active athlete and is considering a career in Medicine or Psychology. For his senior year Action Project Mike will be designing a tutoring program for student-athletes who need extra help with academics.

 

Sabina Dhakal

Sabina Dhakal was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. She moved from Kathmandu, Nepal to Cambridge Ma in May of 1999. Sabina joined the Amherst Regional Middle school in 2003. Currently she is a Junior at the Amherst Regional High School. She In 2006 she attended the MSAN Leadership Conference in Green bay, Wisconsin. Also in 2006 Sabina attended the National Women's Conference in Boston, MA. Sabina is a trained peer leader of the Anti-Defamation League. In the High School she is an active member of the Strive, Latinos Unidos, Asian Club and she a Council Member for the Class of 2008. And she has been working for University of Massachusetts for three years. For her action project she is coordinating a after school homework club for the upcoming 9th graders.

Kalondu Katwiwa

Kalondu Katwiwa was born July 22, 1991 and is currently a sophomore graduating in 2009. She was born and raised in Kenya and moved around as a child before finally settling down in Amherst. She is part of Project 2050, Video Vanguards, AIMS and numerous other programs targeted towards social justice and education. She hopes to go to college and pursue a degree in Political Science or Social Anthropology. Kalondu wants to change the world in her lifetime, by any means necessary.

 

Walter Mfuko

Walter Mfuko, 16, is a Junior at Amherst Regional High School and was born in Northampton, Massachusetts. He is a two-year starter on the Varsity Football team and plans to continue playing football in college. Walter also plans to attend a 4 year college to major in either Engineering or Business.

Sam Rohde

Sam Rohde is seventeen and currently a junior at Amherst Regional High School. He participates in Project 2050 which is a multi cultural examination of social controversies. Sam also leads an after school Hip-Hop club called FRESHH. FRESHH stand for Forwarding Reality, Education, and Solidarity through Hip-Hop. His interests include music, social awareness, and art. Sam’s plan for the future is to further his education after High School.

Zakharii Willetts

Zakharii was born in Syracuse, New York. He lived in Syracuse for awhile but at the tender age of 7 he moved to Connecticut. While in Connecticut, he lived in Middletown for a year and in Hartford for two years. During his stint in Connecticut Zakharii excelled his students of his 4th grade class and because of this he skipped 4th grade and went straight from 3rd to 5th. Before middle school began for Zakharii, he moved back to Syracuse and enjoyed his 7th and 8th grade years there. He was then accepted to the Amherst A Better Chance (ABC) program. He came as a freshman at the young age of 13. While in high school he has received two English department awards. He has also been crowned, with two of his peers, as the creator of the number one Audio/Video Technology final project in his school for the past 5 years. Currently ending his junior year and entering his senior year at 16 years old, he plans on studying film/television/music during is collegiate years.
