Course Expectations
This
course will adhere to the ARHS Mission Statement:
“The
mission of Amherst Regional High School is to create a dynamic
learning community where students and staff work together and
where students are supported and challenged to achieve their full
potential in their intellectual, creative, social, and civic endeavors.
With Parent and community participation, staff and students strive
to ensure a safe environment and to promote respect and appreciation
for the diversity of individuals, cultures, and learning styles.”
General Guidelines to Success
You
can expect to do well in this class if you do the following on
a regular basis:
- Take
care of computers and clean up after yourself.
-
Arrive to class on time and have regular attendance.
-
Put real effort into all your assignments: turn in all of your
assigned projects with accompanying worksheets.
-
Have a good attitude—treat your classmates, teachers and
facilities with respect.
-
Participate in discussions, ask questions and talk to me when
you get behind or are having problems with content.
-
Do not instant message, play computer games, or do work for
other classes during class time.
Rules
- No
food or drink near the computers, including water.
-
No instant messaging or games…ever. If you need something
to do, visit Worth1000.com.
-
No passes out of the class until five minutes into the period.
-
No passes the last 10 minutes of class.
-
No personal music devices can be visible in the classroom.
-
No drawing, standing on or defacing the desks or other equipment.
-
Wrist pads are to be left where they are and reckless rolling
in the chairs will result in a teacher detention. No warnings
will be given.
Absence/Tardiness
Class
starts when the bell rings. If you are not in the room when the
bell rings, you are tardy. If you do not have an excused pass,
you will receive a detention with the Dean after three warnings.
If you are tardy by more than 20 minutes, you will be counted
as absent. Remember that the absence limit is EIGHT and that each
unexcused tardy is equal to 1/3 of an absence. You may NOT make
up the tardy or absence after school.
Grading
Projects:
Most of the grade in this class comes from in-class projects.
The due-dates for projects is flexible. However, when 90% of the
class is finished, we will move on to the next project, and you
will need to stay after school to get caught up. If you miss school
due to sickness or suspension you may need to make up the time
after school. You have ONE WEEK to make up an unfinished project
or the grade will become a zero.
10%
of your cumulative grade comes from Productivity, Attitude, Responsibility,
and Effort. This includes on-task time, cleaning up after yourself,
treating other people and equipment with respect, absences and
tardiness (whether excused or not.)
Worksheets/Quizzes
A
smaller percentage of your grade comes from in class assignments
and quizzes. Late worksheets will receive 50% of the original
point value. If you are absent on the due date, you have one day
to make it up or the grade or you will receive no more than a
50% . (If you fail a quiz and are on an “ed plan,”
you may retake a quiz. The two grades will be averaged.)
Software
covered in this course will be Adobe Indesign, Adobe PhotoShop
and Adobe Illustrator.

Computer Use
Students
are required to follow the acceptable use policy of the computer
network. Students are NOT to move, add, delete, modify or update
any program on any computer in the Computer Graphics Lab without
permission of the instructor. Downloading of files from the internet
onto the hard drive without permission is prohibited. Playing
of games, instant messaging, or downloading of programs will result
in the loss of your computer account for at least a week. Students
may permanently lose their computer accounts in the event of serious
infractions.
Students

the event of a fire drill or real fire, it is mandatory that you

receive a Dean’s detention. You are expected to reenter
the building in a timely manner.
Academic
Integrity
Cheating
on projects, tests or papers and/or representing someone else's
work as your own without giving proper credit is forbidden. Students
found in violation will take a zero for the assignment and will
not have the opportunity to make up the assignment. In addition,
the counselor, Dean of Students and parent/guardian will be notified.
