1. Create a
new document in InDesign. It should
have 3 pages, and two columns.
Leave the other settings on default.
2. Create a
placeholder for your title, you will create this later in illustrator.
3. Text:
Place the write up on your page. It is located in the “Yearbook Layout”
folder in the Library.
a. Place the
writeup in the left hand column, one pica below the title.
b. The
writeup should flow into the second column. To do this, click on the bottom of
the text box with the black arrow tool to crop it. A red “plus”
will appear. Click on the red plus. This will give you the text flow symbol.
Click in the second column, and the rest of the text will appear in the second
column. The two boxes should have the same number of lines of text in them.
c. Choose a
font that is more exciting than the ones they are in. The font size for the
writeup must be 10 pts.
d. Place the
captions in the bottom right hand corner of your page. Change the font size to 8
pts. Choose a more interesting font. Do not worry about identifying who is in
the photos.
4. Photos:
Choose one of the photos as the dominant photo for your page. It should be a
photo that has some emotion in it, or captures the essence of Field Day.
a. Place 6-9
photos on your page. Choose photos from a variety of sports.
b. Crop the
photos so that they are more aesthetically appealing.
c. All
photos must be separated by one pica. Write up and captions must be separated
from the photos by one pica. Each time you push the arrow key it moves 1
point. There are 12 points in a
pica.
d. Photos
CANNOT be stretched or squeezed. Hold the shift button when you free transform
them.
5. Photo
Numbers: Place numbers to identify which photo is which. The photo numbers must
be size 10. Choose an interesting font. The photo numbers must be black with a
white stroke. They must be 6 pts. in from sides.
6. In
Illustrator, create a title image for Field Day.
a. The
dimensions are 31 picas wide by 13 picas tall.
b. The resolution
must be 300 pixels per inch.
c. You must
have the title Field Day, and one graphic.
Think about how you did your logo.
Do not use color, only black, white and greys.
d. Save it
as a TIFF file.
e. Place
this in your field day layout.
7. Using the
master image, put page numbers in the bottom right corner of the pages.
8. Before
the page number, place the graphic you used in the title, but make it very
small, about the size of the page number.
9. Save the file in the “Finished Yearbook” folder as your last name.
