Challenge Page for 1st trimester, 2008-2009 School year.

Sign up with Mr. Guillaume for a presentation slot in class.  The presentations are on a topic very similar to the Summer Homework.  This is the only outside challenge that is being accepted for Tri 1.  For Tri 2 and 3, we will go back  to the old system.

Come in with 7-10 note cards or 7-10 slips of paper, ready to talk to the whole class.

Please bring in a copy of the article you read.  You only need to bring in 1 article (unlike the 3 for the summer homework.)

Note cards/slips should be as follows:

Note Card #

Topic

1

Title of article and author

2

What were 2 vocabulary words either you found confusing or you think others might find confusing.  Define these words.

3

Why did you choose this article?

4

1 minute summary of what the article was about.  This might take a few cards.

5

If you had written the title, what would your title have been?  (Make it a truthful but exciting title.)

6

How did scientists work together to gain this new understanding of the world?

7

How does this new understanding in science help make people’s lives better?

There will be 20 outside challenge points awarded to students who present an article.

If you email me a 5-7 slide Powerpoint presentation for your talk, you can go up to 30 challenge points, depending on the content.  (You don’t need to have Powerpoint at home – you can do it in school.)
