Trash-Free Lunch - April 18

Trash-Free Lunch Day was a huge success at Wildwood.  Normally at lunch the school creates two barrels of trash and one barrel of compost daily.  On April 18,  we produced two barrels of compost, and only a quarter of a barrel of trash.   What a difference!  Many thanks to the lunch ladies Cheryl, Nancy and Mary who made this possible, and thanks to Susan Waite for organizing such an important event.

SIXTH GRADERS SHINE IN QUIZ BOWL

Once again, Wildwood 6th graders have excelled in the Annual Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.  The contest, completed by teams of students using a computer, involves 100 multiple-choice questions covering a range of topics (math, literature, music, science, history, current events, sports, etc.), and points are awarded based on both accuracy and speed.  For the 7th year, Wildwood students competed in the Northeast Region, covering states from New England to Maryland.

Fifteen teams competed at Wildwood on the morning of March 4th and the scores of the top four teams were reported to the Quiz Bowl organizers.  The results were truly impressive!  Wildwood’s top team (made up of Azure Bergman, Isabelle Jackson, Tara Murty, Jessie Pruisto-Chang, and Megan Tassy) scored 1160 points, out of a possible 1500, and achieved an accuracy rating of 91%.  In the process, they placed 2nd of all the many dozens of 6th grade teams who competed in the Northeast Region.  Wildwood’s 2nd place team (Gloria Miller, Amutha Muthukumar, Talia Rueschemeyer-Bailey, and Kate Schreiber) placed 5th in the Northeast with a score of 1131.  Wildwood’s 3rd place team (Rex DePillis, Bryan Meeks, Tom Neill, and Matthew Kowaleski) placed 9th with 1057 points, and the school’s 4th place team  (Simon Elliot, Skyler Perot, and Brandon Vazquez) placed 11th with 1037 teams.  Three other Wildwood teams, whose scores we could not submit, each scored over 1000 points, which put them in front of the #12 reporting team in the Northeast which tallied 994 points.

It was a morning of much excitement and a fine display of the depth and breadth of knowledge Wildwood students bring to such an event.
