AUSTRALIA THE LAND DOWN UNDER
Australia
is a continent. It is located land down under because it is down near the
very bottom of the in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.
Some people call it the world, near Antarctica.
There are six states in Australia:
New South Wales, Victoria,
Queensland, South
Australia, West Australia and Tasmania

Famous Places
Australia has many wonderful
places that you could visit. On the east coast of Queensland
is the Great Barrier Reef. It is the
world’s largest coral formation. It has tons and tons of tiny
bright-colored fish and coral that you can see from the moon. Take a
look at a map of Australia
and you can find the Great Barrier Reef.
Ayers Rock is a famous landmark in Uluro, the national park of Australia.
It is red and 1.5 miles long. There are caves in it that have ancient
paintings drawn on the walls. The largest cities in Australia are
Sydney and Melbourne. The capital city is Canberra. Michael Tjakamarra Neelso
made a beautiful mosaic in front of the parliament house. The Murry River
is the largest river in Australia.
It is 1,609 miles long, and a wonderful place to take a relaxing boat ride.

Climate
Australia
has a range of temperatures. In parts of it there are hot dry sandy
deserts and in other parts it is wet like in Tasmania’s rainforest. There are violent storms
called cyclones where the wind can get up too 100 mph. There seasons
are opposite of America’s
seasons. In summer (America’s
winter.) it is about 86o F and in winter (America’s
summer) it is about 77o F. So if you go to Australia you
will pretty much be wearing shorts and T-shirts all year long.

People
Australia’s people are both different from and
alike people in America.
There are 18,000,000 people living there. Black first lived in Australia,
but now there are many white people living among them. The main
religion is Christianity, and many of them are Catholics. A cave serves
as a home for the people who live in parts of Australia where the sun is
scorching hot. They live in them for protection.

Food
Australia has foods much like America’s,
and some very different. The similar foods include wheat, barley,
papaws, currants, apples, grapes, strawberries, oranges and my personal
favorite, mangos. More unusual foods are grubs, turtle eggs, and daisy
yams. Australia
has vineyards where grapes are grown to make wine. The main meal in Australia is
meat, veggies, and povlova-a sponge cake with chocolate and coconut.

Animals
Australia’s animals are known to only live in Australia.
Kangaroos and koalas are well known as marsupials are located all over the
island. Emus are another one of most exiting creatures. Emus are
birds that can’t fly. Other birds both colorful and great to watch are
spotted in Tasmania’s
cool and wet areas. The Tasmanian devil and the wombat (a small,
fluffy, bear-like animal) live in Tasmania.
Platypuses like and grassy areas to raise their young in. They’re also
found in Australia.
Farmers use their cattle and sheep to help them on the
farm.
Australia
is scary and exiting. Now you know why.
